This evening, The National Theatre’s Helen Hayes Gallery will be the scene for the announcement of the 2013 Helen Hayes Awards nominees. The Helen Hayes Awards is one of the most prestigious honors for artists and theatre companies in Washington’s vibrant theatre scene.
But the process to get to the nominations is a long one; the culmination of a year’s work, and the combined efforts of 60 judges, 84 theatre coordinators, 22 members of the board of governors, 12 artistic advisors, 3 statisticians, and 4 theatreWashington staff members.
The nomination process itself – the policies and rules to which all participating theatres must comply - has been honed and refined over the past 29 years – and as our theatre community keeps evolving, so too does the process that supports it.
theatreWashington Prez Linda Levy Grossman explains it all to you.
And if you want to know even more, take a look at the Rules for the Administration of the Helen Hayes Awards and these Frequently Asked Questions.
The Helen Hayes Awards nominations will be webcast live, hosted by WTOPs Bob Madigan and Rebecca Sheir of WAMUs Metro Connection.
