STC Offers Free Ticket Program and Fundraising for Taking Care Fund During the Run of Our Town

Organization
Shakespeare Theatre Company

Shakespeare Theatre Company will be participating in the Free Will and Taking Care Initiatives for the entire run of Our Town (May 12 through June 11).

“These initiatives are imperative to the health and well-being of our community,” says Artistic Director Simon Godwin. “We are blessed with a generous community that values the work of these artists, and we aim to help that community grow. This is just a small way to show our continued appreciation of our artists and audiences.”

Free Will Initiative

Free Will, graciously funded by the Harman Family Foundation, provides group tickets at no charge to local organizations and our pandemic heroes (healthcare workers, restaurant workers, teachers, and more). The Free Will program removes the barrier of cost in hopes of providing more accessible theatre offerings to all lovers of the arts. “We are excited to reconnect with our community through the Free Will program during the run of Our Town,” notes STC Senior Director of Engagement and Education Samantha Wyer Bello. "This play has a powerful message about cherishing the moments in our everyday lives. We want to share this life-changing story with anyone who wishes to see it.  After all, Our Town is about community; it’s about family. All who wish to join us are welcome in our home.” STC has reserved up to 100 seats per performance for Free Will access. Taking Care Fund Initiative

STC is proud to partner with Theatre Washington’s Taking Care Fund for the run of Our Town. The Taking Care Fund was created in 2012 to assist local theatre professionals in times of unforeseen hardship. Support is provided in the form of an outright gift that never needs to be repaid. The Taking Care Fund is open to individuals in the theatre community facing personal emergencies, medical emergencies, debt relief, expenses related to dependent care, and financial hardship caused by the ongoing Covid-19 global health emergency. “I knew I wanted to make this production about our local talent,” comments Our Town director Alan Paul. “Without them, D.C. theatre wouldn’t be the same.” With a single application, the fund strives for a streamlined approval process for those in need. All donations to Taking Care are tax-deductible. To donate and learn more, please visit their website here.
