Set in Seattle, Washington, the play centers on a prominent Black Deaf family deeply rooted in Black Deaf culture and language. The story follows Jr., a Black Deaf high school sophomore at Hampton High School, who presents a bold project in the U.S. Deaf history and American Sign Language (ASL). When his teacher, Mr. Watson, who is white and Deaf, questions the legitimacy of his work, a note is sent home.
